American Forage and Grassland Council Annual Meeting in June

Berea, Kentucky, May 15, 2011—The American Forage and Grassland Council (AFGC) will host its Annual Meeting June 13-15, at French Lick Springs Hotel and Conference Center in French Lick, Indiana. The event is being hosted by the Indiana Forage Council.

According to AFGC Executive Director, Tina Bowling, the event will feature symposia, scientific posters, student contests, tours, exhibits and networking designed to advance the knowledge and use of forage as a prime feed resource. It is attended by forage and livestock producers, agribusiness, and research, extension, and teaching faculty in crop and animal sciences, agricultural engineering, and other affiliated disciplines.

The Keynote speaker this year will be Joe Kelsey, a sixth generation dairy and crop farmer and Indiana Agriculture Director for the Indiana State Department of Agriculture. Joe Kelsey will discuss his background as a dairy farmer and how he sees forages playing a role in the future of agriculture.

In addition, to timely and relevant educational sessions there will also be three tours available. A Hay Tour conducted at Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center (SIPAC) with equipment demonstrations; a Beef Tour with two local farm stops including Kaiser Farms and James Farms and concluding at SIPAC; and a Sheep and Goat Tour with stop at Embree Farms and concluding at SIPAC. SIPAC will also be host to the Indiana Night Event showcasing local fare.
